Virgin Media announced as Official Volunteer Partner for first ever International Paralympics Committee Championships in the UK

Virgin Media is proud to be the Official Volunteer Partner of the 2014 IPC Athletics European Championships in Swansea, helping make the Games an unforgettable experience for everyone. Virgin Media's award-winning customer service team from Swansea will train and inspire the 500-strong volunteers so that spectators and competitors enjoy a great experience and take fond memories away from the Championships.

Staff from Virgin Media's Matrix Court offices in Swansea are amongst the volunteers accompanying some of the top names in para-athletics to and from the track.

Maurice Daw, chief people officer says. "Swansea is a fantastic centre of excellence for Virgin Media so it’s an honour as well as a tribute to the quality of our people that we have been asked to be a part of these Championships. We’re proud to be supporting Swansea 2014 which will be a brilliant occasion for everyone."

Andrew Daniel works at Virgin Media's Matrix Court office and is training to volunteer at the Championships. "I’m really excited about being involved in the games, especially meeting some of the athletes and helping carry their kit. Hopefully I’ll also see Richard Whitehead, our accessibility ambassador bring home gold!"

Volunteers are at the heart of Swansea 2014, as Jon Morgan, executive director of Disability Sport Wales explains. "Volunteers will be the heartbeat of Swansea 2014. To ensure we take the Championships from good to great, our volunteers will require exceptional training and support. That's why we are delighted to be working with Virgin Media as our Official Volunteer Partner. Virgin Media brings a high level of commitment and professionalism to our volunteer programme, as well as a significant number of employees, who will also dedicate their own time to join the Championship's volunteer programme.”

The Championships take place between the 18th and 23rd August and will see over 600 athletes from over 35 countries across Europe competing at the site in Swansea University’s grounds. 13,000 supporters are expected to turn up to enjoy the 20 awesome para-athletic events.
