Stay safe on the web
The internet is a wonderful, magical place... you can find anything you like from a picture of a cat in a tutu to actual rocket science. Some times there can people or things that want to ruin the fun. This is why we do everything we can to keep you safe online, but occasionally it takes some effort on your part too – and here’s how you can help us to help you.
Password 101
Your password is extremely important – it is the gateway into your private stuff, whether it’s for your email, your social media feeds or your My Virgin Media account – they all have the potential to be hacked – so your password should be as hard to guess as possible.
The hardest passwords to crack are a mix of a minimum of 8 letters and numbers. Try not to use names or full words. It sounds tricky but you can have fun with it too… try spelling a word but replace some letters with numbers: KiTtYL1TT3r, Br4twur6T, – these are both good!
These may seem really obvious, but here’s some password rules…
- Don’t tell anyone your password
- Don’t have the same password for everything
- Make your password reset questions difficult, think if someone could search for the answer online
Your TiVo PIN
We want you to keep your TiVo just for you and your family to enjoy, and your PIN number makes this possible. If your PIN code gets into the wrong hands, they could get up to all sorts of mischief … your details could be used to rent films, sign up to Netflix, change your settings, lock you out – and god forbid – delete your Walking Dead recordings. So change your TiVo PIN number to something only you can remember.
Just go to Home> Help & Settings> Parental Controls> Change PIN.
Super security for Super Hubs
I bet you didn’t know you could change the password for your Super Hub… well you can, and you should. After all, it’s not a great idea to keep it as the one printed on the bottom of your hub. Change your Virgin Media Hub password here.
